Squier Stratocaster Korean gold logo 50th AnniversaryThe Gold Logo Korean Squier was built in 1996 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Fender. The Gold Logo Squier is well built guitar with a solid alder body and is finished in a nitrocellulose lacquer. This guitar is not to be confused with the lower quality 1992 to 1995 black logo Korean Squiers, which were made from plywood. The real feature of CN5 Gold Logo is the neck, it has a thin maple neck with a 9.5 inch radius fretboard (as opposed to the normal 12 inch radius on the black logo Korean Squiers). The necks are well lacquered and the frets are vintage size. The joint to the solid alder body is strong and the body tends to be heavy. The finish is beautifully smooth and well lacquered. The machine heads however are from the black logo Korean Squier and are a cheap fitting, though this guitar keeps in tune. The pickups are ceramic and have a nice punchy kick to them and a sweet tone. I bought this guitar new in 1997. The serial number shows CN5 showing it was manufactured at the Cort factory (Cor-Teck) in Korean and was made in late 1995. I don't know what it is about this guitar, it plays beautifully, with a lovely neck and is my favourite guitar from my collection. I fitted a tortoise shell pickguard and black Squier pickup covers and knobs. I also fitted Wilkinson tuners and a Fender tremolo with Fender saddles and a fullsize block. Below shows the solid alder body and old smaller trem block |
